Raise Your Voice

Protesting at the Capitol in Des Moines is one way to be heard.

There are lots of ways to stand up and speak out.

Letters to the Editor are one super-effective way. Progress Iowa offers letter-writing seminars by Zoom weekly. Contact Amy Adams for more information.

Another way is to join rallies, marches and protests.

But the most effective way is to learn how to talk to friends and family.

It’s hard at first. You don’t want to cause a rift. But taking a stand—a gentle but firm and loving stand—is leadership at its most effective and beneficial.

Speak your truth.

You don’t have to have all the answers, or even argue with anyone.

But when you tell the simple truth—you say, “We shouldn’t spend public money on private schools,” or something like that—you take a stand. And it feels liberating.

Standing up for what’s right—and rejecting what’s just plain wrong—feels good.

It feels like you’re doing something for the world.
