The Scott County Democratic Party is pleased to announce that it will host two dynamic and engaging speakers with national profiles for its Red, white and Blue Gala: Congressman Eric Sawlwell and Mayor Eric Garcetti.
Congressman Swalwell is quickly becoming one of the Democratic Party’s leaders to watch, as he makes a name for himself by speaking up boldly in defense of our nation’s security.
Congressman Swalwell is a native Iowan, born in Sac City. He now resides in California and represents the 15th District. Before being elected to the House of Representatives in 2012, he had been a City Council member in Dublin, California and also served as a County District Attorney. Known for his role in the Russia investigation and for his innovative use of social media in Congress, he has made an impact in his first three terms by serving or having served on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the Science Committee, and the Judiciary Committee. He currently serves as the co-chair of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, and chairs the Future Forum, a group he founded of 27 house democrats focused on the concerns of the millennial generation.
Mayor Garcetti was born and raised in the area around Los Angeles, the son of former Los Angeles county attorney Gil Garcetti. He currently serves in the City’s highest elected office, having been re-elected in 2017 after serving a prior term as mayor and three terms on the City Council. Garcetti has continued to push Los Angeles in a more progressive direction, and has joined other high-ranking elected officials across California in making the state a bulwark against the Trump administration’s policies on immigration and environmental regulation.
